Fern started traveling to Jamaica on vacation in 2011. She fell in love with the island, the people, the culture and began visiting there regularly. In 2014, after spending a day exploring, she had the opportunity to visit a community and see where and how people lived. She witnessed firsthand the daily struggle. She saw people living in survival mode that was simply day to day life. While flying back home after that trip, she sat and contemplated how she could help and what she could do that could possibly make a difference. So she held a clothing drive and shipped barrels of clothing down to Jamaica. It was supposed to just be one clothing drive. But from there it grew and continued to grow. Projects were added and volunteers got involved. In 2018 Fern formed an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the US. OLOH is a volunteer charity fully committed to reaching underserved communities in Jamaica. In 2026 OLOH committed to ongoing relief efforts following the devastation from Hurricane Melissa to sustain communities with daily necessities while the country continues to rebuild.

Fern specializes in teaching beginner to intermediate piano students of all ages, from preschool to adult. Beyond her teaching experience, Fern is also an experienced business-woman,  and has expanded her music business to other music professionals offering in-home music instruction on many instruments, and music workshops that include all of the performing arts. Fern received a B.S. in Education from Temple University and has over 30 years of piano teaching experience.
